To acquire the optimised version:

• Work out which version of the optimised client you need. You will need to know your processor type to do this reliably. A tool available freely you do this can be found at this site.
• Download the required zip archive that has the optimised client in it from the links on BOINCUK & Team Lookers web site.
• Unzip the zip archive you have downloaded into a temporary folder.
• There should be two files in the folder. A new Seti .exe file and an app_info.xml file.

To install an optimised Seti client the first steps after download and unzipping are to:

• Stop BOINC from running
• Wait for the existing Seti client to stop.
• Copy your BOINC folder and create a backup of all that you have in case you need to step back.
• Take the new unzipped Seti .exe and place it in the C:\Program Files\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu (or whatever name you chose at installation.
• Take the app_info.xml file and place that in the same folder.
• Re-start BOINC.
• Seti should now carry on with the work in that folder.

To acquire the optimised version:

• Stop any running project client application - best to stop BOINC.
• Download the above link to your projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu directory. It might be called setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu. cd to that directory, projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu
• Execute the command tar xzf setiathome_SSE3-naparst-r3.4.tar.bz2 to unpack the archive.
• Two files will be created, app_info.xml and setiathome_SSE2-naparst-r3.4
• Remove all other files in the directory except those two. Restart boinc.
• You might need to update the project, but if you look at the messages, you should hopefully see something like found app_info.xml, using anonymous platform. This is good.  

To acquire the optimised version:

• Stop any running project client application - best to stop BOINC
• Download the optimised client
• Unzip the downloaded file into C:\Program Files\BOINC\projects\einstein.phys.uwm.edu (or whatever name you chose at installation).
• Re-start BOINC
